Las Cruces, NM – Downtown Las Cruces Partnership (DLCP) and Las Cruces Arts and Cultural District (LCACD) are thrilled to announce Lit Fest’s return, a literary arts celebration marking its third anniversary. This year’s event promises to be an immersive experience, showcasing the vibrant literary community of Las Cruces and commemorating the fourth anniversary of the Generations Community Writing Project.
Lit Fest 2024 will take place on May 18th from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM, offering a diverse array of sessions hosted by esteemed organizations such as the LCACD, Desert Voices, Doña Ana Arts Council, and Film Las Cruces. Attendees can engage in interactive workshops, discussions, and creative activities designed to inspire and foster a love for literature.
The event kicks off with “My Two Selves: The Art of In Lak’esh,” a Spanglish writing and art workshop hosted by the Doña Ana Arts Council. Participants will have the opportunity to transform their writing into self-portraits from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Doña Ana Arts Council Office, located at 230 S Water St.
Following this, attendees can join the Writer’s Roundtable, an interactive writing experience facilitated by the Las Cruces Arts and Cultural District, featuring guided writing exercises and light refreshments. This session will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Amador Patio Bar and Grill, 302 South Main St.
Film enthusiasts and aspiring screenwriters won’t want to miss the Screenwriting Workshop hosted by Film Las Cruces from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Film Las Cruces Office, located at 221 W. Griggs Ave. Writers of all experience levels are welcome to participate in this unique opportunity to hone their craft.
Throughout the day, attendees can also explore the “West of Eden” open art show, featuring paintings inspired by the works of John Steinbeck. This traveling exhibition by award-winning artist Maggie Walker Nelson, on its way to the National Steinbeck Center in Salinas, California, will be on display at the Rio Grande Theatre Gallery from 3:00 PM to 7:30 PM, offering a glimpse into the world of Steinbeck’s literary legacy through the lens of the contemporary American Southwest.
The evening culminates with the Generations Community Writing Project, where local authors of different generations will come together to share their work under the theme of Past, Present, and Future. This captivating reading will take place from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N Main Street.
As a sweet conclusion to the festivities, attendees are invited to a reception featuring literary-themed treats by No Worries Bakery at 7:30 PM, also hosted at the Rio Grande Theatre.
