Ring in 2023 at the Chile Drop!

Join in on this not-want-to-miss event, the annual Chile Drop! Inspired by New York’s Ball drop, the Las Cruces Chile Drop will light up downtown with either red or green lights depending on the mood of the audience. This year, we will feature the Memphis Band to celebrate nine years of this engaging event. In addition, this event will also feature delicious food and carnival games to keep you engaged in this upcoming year’s celebration!

Presented by the City of Las Cruces and the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership, the Las Cruces Chile Drop came alive in 2014. It was an entry event for the recently constructed Plaza de Las Cruces. As of today, this celebration starts things off with live music and a kid’s zone with kid-friendly entertainment. At midnight, a 19-foot chrome chile drops from a crane to celebrate the new year. Additionally, attendants can scan a QR code to vote on what color the 400 feet of LED lighting will be!

Voting has started on the Las Cruces Chile Drop Facebook Page for those who want to jumpstart their decision! This year, it will be viewed by the Grand Marshal of the event, Jason McNabb, a reporter for the KVIA New Mexico Mobile Newsroom.

So, are you free on December 31st? Perfect! Gather up all your friends and family and stop by to celebrate what will be a delicious and entertaining Las Cruces Chile Drop from 9 pm to midnight! It’s an event you do not want to miss!
